FAQ's
State Coverage: (CA, LA, AR, OK)
What is a Notary Public?
A State appointed Official commissioned to witness the signing of important documents and to administer oaths. Documents are notarized to deter fraud and to ensure they are properly executed. An impartial witness (the Notary) identifies signers to screen out impostors and to make sure they have entered into agreements knowingly and willingly. A Louisiana Civil Notary has a wider scope of notarial duties in comparison to Common Law Notaries.
What is a phone consultation?
Our phone consultations cover all states. A fledgling or veteran client can have a minimum of 1 hr mentoring to discuss ANY area that he/she needs to review or refresh in, i.e. how to present loan documents effectively, how to register with signing companies, what is the best legal entity to select, how to prepare notary taxes, how to market their business, how to start their business & more. Payment is processed, appointment is made and the consultation begins. Often the client receives sample documents to reference during the consultation as well as it can be interactive through Skype.com
CALIFORNIA FAQ'S
How to Register for the CA State Notary Exam?
To register for the State Exam, go to http://www.cps.ca.gov/TakeATest/Notary/ OR call (916) 263-3520. Exam dates fill up very fast, so if your preferred date is booked, try another alternate date and remember they accept walk-ins. But still register for a date so you have one confirmed.
Where can I get my fingerprints taken?
Fingerprints must be submitted via a Live Scan Agency for a processing fee of $32 and an additional rolling fee which varies. To make an appointment, contact Sylvan Identix Fingerprinting Center (SIFC) at 1-800-315-4507.
Why should I take a home-study class?
Home-study classes are highly recommended for renewing notaries and for those that prefer the home-study method. Renewing notaries have already gained notary knowledge and are actively using it so the idea of studying at your own pace is appealing. Each student also gets a 1 hour phone consultation with the purchase of home study material for Q&A with a live instructor.
How can I report an unethical or illegal notary or notarial act?
Any wrongdoing or illegal activity should be reported to law enforcement and the appropriate Notary-regulating state official (typically the secretary of state, governor, lieutenant governor or attorney general). For California, you can go to www.ss.ca.gov (Secretary of State).
